Parent/Caregiver Coaching

Parents are crucial to their children’s development and an essential partner in supporting their child’s healing.

Parenting is richly rewarding however at times it can be daunting. When trauma and attachment distress are present, it can be overwhelming and isolating. When a child uses a disrespectful tone and attitude it can easily lead to feelings of anger and powerlessness in us. When he or she pushes the limits, parents may dig in their heels, getting more rigid or collapse, giving in. When our teen tests limits with risky actions we can teeter totter between feeling scared and panicky to getting more controlling and punitive. Parent support is crucial to effectively navigate these waters.

Parent coaching:

  • Adult parent meetings
  • Education and literature
  • Video analysis of interactions to support self-awareness and learning
  • Skills practice with child in sessions

Coaching helps you:

  • Widen your understanding of your child through the multiple lenses that influence their current difficulties, including; age, nature of the trauma, how they process information and how bodies cope with threat,
  • Address triggers inevitably occurring when confronted by challenging behaviors and attitudes in our children,
  • Learn to differentiate between universal triggers and triggers related to trauma,
  • Learn to differentially respond to trauma triggers based on latest scientific neurobiological understanding of our survival and learning brain states,
  • Identify your stress spots and learn ways to resource. This helps you to be present to your kids effectively.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

Anne is a certified Sensorimotor Practitioner. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy©, developed by Dr. Pat Ogden PhD. , is a somatic approach to psychotherapy, integrating verbal techniques with body oriented interventions for the treatment of trauma, attachment and developmental issues. Anne has found this approach to be deeply meaningful and transformative for her clients. The foundational principles recognize that healing wisdom resides in all of us. This approach sees therapy as a collaborative process between client and therapist to reveal that natural drive for health and wellbeing. Utilizing mindfulness and creativity, client’s first discovery how they habitually function in the world and then learn to expand that capacity identifying and building new and more flexible actions, beliefs, and relationships.
